The crew of the space shuttle Discovery has been granted an extra day in space as well as an extra spacewalk (extra vehicular activity [EVA]).

“The Mission Management Team announced today that Space Shuttle Discovery and the STS-121 crew will get another day in orbit. Managers also announced that the STS-121 crew will conduct an extra spacewalk on flight day 9. Discovery is now slated to undock from the station July 15 and land on the 17th.”

Speaking of spacewalks the crew will conduct its first tomorrow morning, 8:13 a.m CDT is the slated start time and it will be carried live by NASA TV.

(NASA TV can be viewed here or here).

I would also expect, barring any major news events, that a lot of the spacewalk will be covered by the cable news networks. Hooray, something besides a behind the scenes look at an American prison from MSNBC on a Saturday morning.
