A few notes on nuclear power, I have been saving up a few items for several days, just haven't got to posting them until now.

Turkey Point Sabotage

The first bits of news items involve the Turkey Point Nuclear Plant, near Miami, which is the location of an act of suspected nuclear sabotage.

Florida Power & Light (the licensee) has offered a $100,000 reward for information leading to the identity/arrest of whomever sabotaged the plant by drilling a hole in a pipe at the plant.

The incident is being investigated by the FBI, NRC, FPL, and the Miami-Dade Police Department as well as the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

Also at Turkey Point, the Chariman of the NRC, Nils Diaz will make a media appearance at the facility on April 21. I doubt that this is coincidental.

With the Chernobyl 20-year anniversary fast approaching (April 26) this last item is interesting and timely.

The NRC and "State Nuclear Regulatory Committee of Ukraine (SNRCU) signed a bilateral arrangement [April 10] for the exchange of technical information and cooperation in nuclear safety matters."

I don't know about you but nuclear safety tips from the Ukraine don't strike me as very credible. What are they going to show us how to do? Ignore safety constraints and blow up nuclear reactors. I'll pass.

You can check out the NRC release on this agreement here.
